Wrist Acupuncture Reduces Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 15 - Acupuncture or acupressure stimulation of Pericardium 6 (P6), a point on the wrist, is safe and effective for reducing postoperative nausea and vomiting, according to a review of studies appearing in The Cochrane Library for April 14. The results show that compared with sham treatment, P6 stimulation reduces nausea by 29%, vomiting by 30%, and the need for rescue antiemetics by 31%, report study co-authors Dr. Anna Lee and Dr. Lawrence T. Y. Fan, from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin.

Swollen Knee

A patient with a swollen knee came to my practice. I focused the acupuncture treatment on moving and draining fluids. A week later the size of the knee had returned to normal. Through stimulating the right points, the body does the rest!

Chinese acupuncture point names

Last week I followed a wonderful workshop given by Martine Cornelissen about the meaning of the Chinese names of acupuncture point at Qingbai Academy. In the western schools the acupuncture points are given a number and the name of the organ. The additional meaning of the points in Chinese are lost this way, which is unfortunate since through knowlegde of the names information is given about the  location, the specific function and/ or its relationship with other points.
